Pseudoscience Task

Good afternoon today i have completed one of my reading tasks and it was about Pseudoscience. For this task i had to answer some  questions after we had read the book. This task was really fun and easy and if you were wondering  Pseudoscience means that it’s not fake science that isn’t really proven yet. I hope you enjoyed this blog post.

Pseudoscience Task

Walt: Find and link information across a range of texts

Task

What was the author’s main message in pseudoscience

We should ask ourselves whether we can trust the information provided.

What are some of the differences between scientists and advertisers?

Scientists Advertisers
Scientists write so their work and ideas can be critiqued by other scientists. They need to explain their method with enough detail that another scientist can repeat it or look for errors. They use short sentences that grab

people’s attention.

It is important that they are accurate and complete. Not everything is true and proven.

Write 3 sentences explaining something new you’ve learned from this reading.

Reliability: whether evidence is consistent, is repeatable,

and has been collected in an organized way.

Validity: whether the evidence collected is really answering the

question that is being investigated.

You don’t have to look very far to find examples of

pseudoscience.

True or False

Statement True/False Slide/Page Number Evidence
A pseudonym is a false name T Page 2 a “pseudonym” is a false name that people use instead of their real name. In the same way, pseudoscience is something that sounds scientific but isn’t based on solid evidence.
Blackcurrants have vitamin D F Page 2 It’s true that raw blackcurrants are high in vitamin C. But these young scientists found almost no vitamin C

in the blackcurrant drink. (does not mention vitamin D, only C.)

Flavanols help people remember things T Page 3 Flavanols do seem to help older people who

have difficulty remembering things. But the

process of turning cocoa beans into chocolate

destroys the flavanols,

critiqued by other scientists. They need to explain their method with enough detail that another scientist can repeat it or look for errors.

Carrots have vitamin A T Page 5 Carrots have vitamin A in them, and vitamin A is important for healthy eyes.

Lamb to the slaughter

Good afternoon, today i have done my reading task for this week and it was about one of the books that i have been looking at and it is called Lamb to the slaughter and this book its about a women and her and her husband don’t really seem in love because he is always working but one day he comes home from work and he tells his wife that he had cheated on her and the wife uses a lamb leg and kills the husband. When the police come and investigated she feds them the murder weapon and that was the lamb leg and since that ate the evidence she had gotten away with the murder. I enjoyed reading this book and doing this task because it was really interesting and the book was a really good. I hope you enjoyed looking at this blog post.

Rust task

Good morning, Today i have completed my other task for this week and it was a Rust task that i had to do to complete one of my reading tasks and that is a word find. This task for me was easy and simple because it was basically just putting the information that i know about this topic into the text boxes. I hope you enjoyed looking at this blog post!

Fast Rust Task

Task

Work on this Doc together with a partner.

What 3 ingredients are needed for rust to occur.

Iron Water Oxygen

Write a brief paragraph explaining the rusting process (why rusting occurs)

When metal or iron starts to rust, a reddish orange type of metal starts forming, how rust forms is that when the iron reacts to the water and oxygen. Rust is the result of corroding steel after the iron particles have been exposed to oxygen and moisture.

How could you prevent something from rusting?

One way you could prevent something from rusting is storing the metal or iron in a very low moisture area or in a temperature controlled area. Or if you can’t do this one way you could protect your iron is by applying grease or paint. This protects the metal for a period of time until you need to reapply the coat once the grease or paint starts to fade away. In conclusion, try to keep the iron away from water or moisture and if you can’t protect your metal with grease or paint.

Write 3 sentences explaining something new you’ve learned from this reading.

Write down any new words you found in Fast Rust or the article about rust. Make sure you learn what the word means and write down a definition you understand for each new word.

Word Definition
Corrosion A breakdown of materials due to a chemical action like rusting.
Alloy A metal mixed with another element to make the metal stronger
Compound A mixture of 2 or more chemical elements.
Iron oxide Chemical compound used of iron and oxygen.
Moisture Condensed or diffused liquid

decomposed Breakdown or caused to be broken down.
